My Journey to Osteopathy

Although Osteopathy has been around for more than a century it’s benefits and uses are still fairly unknow to the majority of the public. However, this is starting to change as many people are starting to understand the benefits of osteopathy and see the long-lasting results it holds.

More and more people are becoming aware of Osteopathy but still do not know exactly what it is and who it can benefit. Let’s first discuss who it can benefit.

Who can benefit from Osteopathy?

The great thing about Osteopathy is that it can benefit anyone that is alive and breathing. Yes, that’s right, anyone; from a week-old baby to a 96-year-old. The techniques can be very gentle but very effective. It also ranges in many conditions that it can treat from gut issues, to fertility issues, to increasing performance in sport and many other conditions.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy treats the body as a whole. It will look at misalignment, tensions in the body as well as emotional links to pain. The Osteopath practitioner will use their detailed and extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology and bio-mechanics to get to the source of the problem and restore balance and functionality in all systems of the body therefore treating in the most effective way to achieve long lasting results. There are many different approaches that osteopaths use to restore the body to a more balanced and aligned state. These approaches are tailored and individualized to each person depending on their needs and conditions that are presented at each visit. Osteopathy is centered around the person; the time is given to treat them in becoming their healing partner to aid in their journey. Osteopaths alone are not healers but they work together with their patients to be the facilitator of healing.

Why did you choose this profession?

In my past I have studied Kinesiology and I have also owned a successful fitness business. I was always fascinated by the body and knew how to train it, I just did not know how to heal it. After a shoulder strain I tried a massage to help with the pain but no matter how many massages I went to nothing helped. I finally decided to go see an Osteopath and within 3 days of my session I was pain free. I was so amazed by this that it made me realize that this was the missing link that I was looking for. I love to help people, that is my nature, and if I could help them be pain free or help them have a baby through Osteopathy then I knew I had found my calling in life.

As a mother of three I was nervous to start school again but I found an amazing school through NUMSS which allowed me to continue my studies. I found great mentors in my city and outside that helped me along the way and guided me. These mentors will continue to be part of my journey as well as continually learning to be able to pass on the knowledge to my clients. I think that life is too short and you must find something you are passionate about, no matter what age you are or at what point you are in your life. I am grateful to have found my calling and to have had suc

h a great school and support system to allow me to follow my passion and fulfill my purpose in helping as many people as possible by being their healing facilitator.
